Advanced Configuration

Limit the distribution of posts added to a topic

  • NOTE: This configuration requires the Privacy Group feature of Hubzilla.
  • Create a privacy group that will contain the distribution list for the topic.
  • Assign connections to the privacy group.
  • Use the "Allowed to read" dropdown to assign the privacy group to the topic.

Allow forum members to "Self-Subscribe" to topics.

  • Use the "Allow Selfsubscribe" slider to enable forum users to subscribe themselves to a topic that is limited in distribution.

Restrict who can post to a topic

  • Create a privacy group that will contain the distribution list for the topic.
  • Assign connections to the privacy group.
  • Use the "Allowed to post" dropdown to assign a privacy group to be able to post to the topic

image

  • NOTE: If a connection is in the "Allowed to post" group but not in the "Allowed to read" group, the connection will be still be added as an allowed contact on their own posts to the topic so they are allowed to read and comment on their own posts.

Interesting Combinations

  • Setting "Allowed to read" to a group of support technicians and adding customers to the group assigned to "Allowed to post," while leaving "Self subscriptions" disabled creates a customer support topic where customers see only their own posts, and support technicians see all posts.

Other Possibilities

  • Using the "HZAddons" submodule of the CART addon, allows the ability to add users to a privacy group automatically when payment is received and an order is fulfilled.
